09:43 am: holidays
So we went to Albany Wednesday night and on to NH on Thursday. We got there earlier than expected and so had time to smooze before a really great Thanksgiving day dinner. Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravey, rolls, and more. Ate too much but not too much.
Friday slept late, which was hard to do as we were in the sun room. Windows on 3 sides and right next too the kitchen. Took Emily to B and N to get some books as she had gift certificates from her birthday and BandN is always fun.
High winds making the fsllen leaves play tag across the lawn. Lost electricity but it was back when we returned.
Saturday was a loafing day. Wes and his band (gerry and the atrics) were playing at the lazy lion inn so we had supper there and listened. As a former sound engineer I had complaints of course. They were too loud for the venue but the instrument mix was good. Now if they would tone it down and let the mics be heard and understood they would be super.
And yesterday we came home. Left about 9 AM. Good trip. We stopped for an early supper at a place called the Silo between Bainbridge and Greene. Got there in time for the early bird specials. Excellent food and service. Maybe because of the hour or maybe because of the day or both it was a private dining room. Pretty view as well. Brought half the meal home because we just plain couldn't eat it all. And that was our vacation.
See you all later.

10:28 am: not much
We leave today as soon as Ruth gets home from work and we get the car packed. Shouldn't take long. At least we can hope. Going to Albany for the night and on to NH tomorrow. That way no need to arise at dark 0:30.
Thanksgiving at Wes and Lauries in NH> Back on Sunday.
Quick note on bowling. Average 150 on Monday and 136 last night. Both way above usual average of 126. Go me!!!

10:01 am: Nothing special
I guess I should since it has been a while. Bowling--I am on 2 teams in 2 leagues. One on Tuesday nights and one Thursday afternoons. I am not doing as well as I would like but still it is funa nd exercise.
As I suspected the other hip is now giving me grief. I fully intend to get it replaced as soon as Dr. Anderson OKs the surgery. Hurting hurts.
I am helping with the Jr, Bowling program. I take in the money and keep track of it. I have also designed certificates to be awarded to any person, group or organization that donates to us or to our tournaments. Also desiged and made a mail box for our use at the bowling lanes so that we will not have to depend on desk personal tp pass messages or money or anything else.
And that is all for today.

10:13 am: weekends
This month has been busy as far as weekends go. The Great New York State Fair on Labor day weekend. Then the family campout on the next weekend. This past one Ruth was at a fiber festival in Hemlock for 2 days. I worked Jr. Bowling in the morning Sat. and went to the Woodcraft store in Rochester in the afternoon and we spent the night in a motel in Farmington. This upcoming weekend we go to NJ for Barry's 85th birthday and the to NYC to deliver a desk to Becky.
And that is all.

09:36 am: Update
Not what you might expect.Last weekend was our family campout. In days past we (Ruth and I) have taken our camper and slept in it. This year because Cousin Mark Zitter and family had to return to California so they couldn't use their cabin. We decided to use it instead of the camper. It felt strange to be going camping and not towing a camper. I will add it felt good when it came to finding a parking space when it was time to eat on the road.
Naturally we were the first ones there and got settled and then started preparing our Friday night supper--which we invite any interested to partake of. Aunt Sis was the first to arrive but she couldn't find the campsite so I went and rescued her. Sherry and Sarah were next about an hour later but they couldn't find the cabin. Well they did finally. And that was all for the night.
Saturday we all sat around and did mostly nothing until later in the day. Most of them went for a hike. Not me. I sat and read the end of my book. Supper was our usual cookout presided over by Lee and Judy. Chickem sausage, turkey burgers and hot-dogs plus six hamburgs that we brought. After supper we sat around the campfire and sang songs. Then off to bed.
Sunday was up and then more talk while trying to pack up and leave. Getting this family to all congregate in one place for a group picture is rather like trying to herd cats. But finally done and then we were off for home. Arrived about 4:30 PM and unpacked more or less. Will hopefully finish today.
And there you have it in a nutshell.

09:22 am: weekend
Norw that I have had a couple days to think about last weekend here are my thoughts. It was a nice (if very different ) wedding. Our family seems to take any excuse for a get together, which is a good thing. Everyone seemed to be very concerned over my leg and that hip surgery. I had trouble telling them the left hip which was the one repaired was fine. Pain and stiffness were in the right hip. In any case I survived.
We used Ruth's car to travel in. It is a nice one and does use less gas than mine does. Looks better too. If I use the cruse control the right hip starts to hurt. Didn't matter too much going as we were mostly on secondary main roads. What6 I did that seemed to work was to set the cruse control about 5 mph less than I wanted to go and used my foot for the difference. This kept us from slowing too much if my attention wandered.
Coming home we used the Mass pike and NY Throughway mostly until we got to Duanesburg in NY where we took route 20 across the state. Stopped in Richfield Springs for lunch. Good food and reasonable prices. Much faster trip coming than going because no construction and no detours. Also better roads.
I have to send one of my catalogs to Sarah's mother who wants to buy pen and pencil sets for Christmas presents. I gave the poplar snack tray to the newly weds for a wedding present. Everyone told me how beautiful it was. I still like the oak better and have started another oak one. Also have a maple board as I plan to see what that will look like.
Enough for now.

10:00 am: hobby
Well the two snack trays are done. I made the second from poplar wood. Ruth loves it but I think I prefer the oak. Anybody want one? Now that I have them I don't know what to do with them.
Heading for Mass. come Friday. Sherry is getting married.

10:06 am: hobby
My hobby is wood-turning. My latest project is a couple of snack trays with an inlaid marble cutting board and then I will make a cheese cutting knife for each. The first one is nearly done from Oak wood. I LOVE THE LOOK OF OAK AFTER IT IS FINISHED BUT MAN OH MAN the sanding necessary to get that finish. It's matching knife will be made from oak.
I think I will make the next drom maple or maybe poplar. Either is a nice white wood and easier to work. Also easier on the tools. Oak dulls the chisels quickly.
So there for today.

10:45 am: Quickie
5 weeks down and one to go. I have been discharged from PT and told I can do anything the DR says. Yeah-- Well I don't see him until next Wednesday the 15th. So I walk and work in the workshop. Currently making corn holders from scrap wood. Turning out rather well if I do say so myself and I do.
Also walking about 1/4 mile a day just for practice. Will build up over time.
Sold my boat as well. Lots of fun finding all the paperwork.Might have gotten more but it's gone and done so there.

Then yesterday I made a salad server set from Tu8lip wood that I think are really nice. Not sure about today but will see later on. Hve lots of projects that could be done so will have to pick and choose.

09:03 am: One more hip report
Well it is now 4 full weeks and doing well thank you. The original walker is gone and I am using my cane to get around. I have been cleared to go outside and walk in the driveway or even down the road if I choose. Also to get into my woodworking shop and get back to turning. I actually started yesterday with a pickup and re-organization. Not done yet of course. I have a turning apron on order. In fact it has been shipped and I am sort of waiting for it to do any turning.
Guess that is about all for today.

09:46 am: progress
It has been 3 weeks today and I think I have learned to walk all over again. You should see me trying to swish my hips like a 16 year old girl on the prowl. It can't be done but it makes me ache trying. What it does is get me not to sway side to side as I walk and to be balanced as I go. Today maybe I will get to try walking with a cane instead of the walker. And taht is taht for now.

11:16 am: HIP
Day 16 I think. At least it has been 16 days according to the calendar. Healing continues apace. Physical training continues with intent to walk normally once more. I now up to using right hand fingertips only on counter top and stove and taking steps forward and backward without rocking side to side and holding body in straight line. Do several times a day uintil it hurts then stop. Also shallow knee bends like stting down in chair but not quite and holding for 10 seconds and repeat.

11:19 am: day 10
So I missed a couple days. Healing continues. Visiting nurse says doing very well and will be back next Wednesday to remove staples. Then I can shower again, except maybe not standing up. May have to swallow pride and use shower chair.
PT gave me new exercises Wed. and yesterday was kind of miserable. She says that was because I was using muscles that had not been used much before and just keep at exercises and all would be well. Guess she was right as today is much better. Of course she also assigned 2 new exercises as well. and thats up to date.

09:42 am: DAY 8
i GUESS i AM IMPATIENT. i DON'T FEEL LIKE i AM MAKING ANY PROGRESS BUT OTHER PEOPLE TELL ME i AM DOING VERY WELL.Damm caps lock. Visiting nurse said swelling by night was normal and not to worry as long as gone by morning. Did exercises that PT assigned and will continue to do so. They help strengthen muscles that were disturbed by operation. I can walk with walker one-handed for a short distance which means that I can carry coffee cup from pot to table.
Ruth has new ceiling fan. Friend from work came over last PM and put it in for her since I can't stand, stretch and reach yet. She is happy.

11:29 am: Day 7
Following surgery that is. So what's new today.? Well first off when getting ready for bed last night we both noticed that my left calf was swollen and seemed fluid filled which is NOT a good thing. It was about normal this morning however but we called the visiting nurse anyway and she will be here about 1:30 to check. Pain less today and I did exercises this morning. And that is about all.
My computer seems to have taken a hit from a power surge last night. Got a message that I was running on battery and it was low. Power supply is outputting 18 volts as it should. So I turned it off to see if battery would recharge. If not then I guess it is off to the repair shop. More fun.
That is all

11:27 am: Sugery Day 6
This may be repetitious but I'm going to use it to keep track of progress as the hip heals. So be warned.
I was beat when I went to bed last night I had been going all day and the legs just plain said enough. I had to have help getting legs up and into bed. But then in the middle of the night I decided that I just plain couldn't lay on my back any longer so I stuck a big pillow between my legs and pushed myself over onto my right side. I t was even comfortable for a while. Got OK this AM andntook a sponge bath. Not as nice as a shower but helpful none the less. Allso washed hair which was ready to run away. And here I am.
Ruth is outside running hedge shears to trim some bayberry bushes around our front porch. She's having trouble because the extension cord was bad, but I hear them running again so I guess she found another.
Visitinh Nurse was here yesterday and The PT called this morning and will be here about 3:30 . So I will get new exercises to do and I will do them even if they hurt or don't seem to do much.
As far as pain goes--it is there bu bearable--somewhere between 2 and on scale of 1-10.
That is all for now
